Passion Pit - The Reeling (Calvin Harris Remix)

Eye of the storm

It seems like the brunt of final exams are over, but I’m dwelling in the eye of the storm. All is calm before the start of the new week, where I’ll soon be forced to study again. However!…once summer starts, I promise lots of music and goodies for everyone, including reviews and sneak peaks of the new Grizzly Bear/Wilco albums that are due for summer releases. (And trust me, they are damn good.) In the meanwhile, some of the songs that have been carrying me through this week (via emails and fellow blogs):

Passion Pit - The Reeling (Calvin Harris Remix) (Mediafire Direct)

Previously posted by Albert a few weeks earlier, but I am in love with this song. One of those tracks that has a chorus that just makes you want to tilt your pencil towards your mouth as a makeshift mic and start singing at the top of your lungs. (Nevermind the fact you’d need a pretty GD good falsetto to hit some of those notes) It’s a headbobber, this one is.

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Classixx Remix) (Mediafire Direct)

LA based Classixx have done it again with their latest remix of Phoenix’s Lisztomania (this song is getting all kinds of mad love these days). Classixx has a special talent for being able to take any song and lace it with cotton candy synth.  Catchy and addicting crack-flavored cotton candy synth, I might add. They did it with Shwayze, Beni, Shiny Toy Guns, and the Ting Tings to name a few, and this Phoenix rework is no different. They take that 90’s feel of the original away and send you to a futuristic space club instead. Classixx reminds me of Aeroplane a lot, especially if you compare Classixx’s remix of Lisztomania and Aeroplane’s remix of Friendly Fire’s Paris.

Lily Allen - Never Going to Happen (Dr. Rosen Rosen Remix) (Mediafire Direct)

I feel like this song is aptly appropriate for the poppier electro-feel of this post. Especially poignant because I just watched the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy a few days ago, and this song would fit perfectly with the ending scene. (Ok, I just revealed that I watched Grey’s Anatomy…FML. But it’s pretty GD sad.) In any case, this remix takes out the circus-y feel of the original and isolates Lily Allen’s voice with more ambiant harmonies. Better than the original, in my opinion.

The Mummers - Sleepy Head (The Mummers Vs Passion Pit) (Mediafire Direct)

Don’t know where all this love for Passion Pit is coming from, but a pleasant, pleasant surprise in the email this week. Despite my profound love for hard electro and progressive rock bands, I have a soft spot for all things cute and cuddly, too. (I.E. The Weepies, Sleepy Rebels, The Boy Least Likely to, etc.) This song just hit home, and hard.

“My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors
Of your eyes, begonia skies like a sleepyhead”

Pop electro at its finest!
